About Us

Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union (SFCU), consistently voted Readers Choice Awards #1 Community Bank, is committed to providing a personalized banking experience.  Our mission is to ENRICH LIFE for our members and the communities we serve.

A Better Way To Bank May Not Be a Bank At All
Credit unions are member-owned institutions focusing on providing a safe route for savings and borrowing at reasonable rates.  Your funds are insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA)*, a federal agency backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government.  Unlike banks, credit unions are not-for-profit organizations that seek to serve our members by returning surplus income to them, rather than to maximize corporate profits.  SFCU puts people first, servicing our members to meet their financial needs and values each member relationship.  The more we know about you and your family, the better we can dedicate our resources to you.

Our History
Our CEO has been with the credit union for over 20 years and many of our staff have seen generations of families come to us for their banking needs. Our roots were established in 1960 as The Shrewsbury Municipal Employees Federal Credit Union, allowing employees to pool savings and lend to one another and own the organization where they obtained their financial services.  As a federally chartered credit union, membership expanded in 1985 to employees of Boylston and West Boylston, as well as federal postal workers.  In 2003, the credit union opened membership to everyone in these towns and our name changed to Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union.

We now serve a broader area but have remained solid, successful and secure due to our stable foundation of conservative investment practices and responsible lending.  With our 2013 expansion, we now serve the following 12 communities:

  • Berlin
  • Boylston
  • Clinton
  • Grafton
  • Holden
  • Millbury
  • Northborough
  • Shrewsbury
  • Sterling
  • Westborough
  • West Boylston
  • Worcester

Membership Advantages
If you live, work, worship or attend school in any of these communities, you can enjoy the perks of credit union membership.  Benefits include no minimum balance requirements or maintenance fees, direct deposit, automatic payments and an array of personal lending choices - all with lower or none of the fees that most traditional banks charge. Our electronic services are also free of charge, offering online and mobile banking - including bill pay, remote check deposit, and a tracking system to aggregate all your finances.  Our own ATM and drive-up service is available at Route 9's most convenient location.  While on the go, members have access to free, in-network ATMs and a nationwide branch system, too.

We also offer commercial services.  Our hope is to help local businesses grow and even expand beyond your community.  Specializing in creative financing for small and large businesses, our current offering includes commercial real estate and equipment loans, business lines of credit and credit cards, as well as deposit products.

Whether you need help buying your first car or home, funding educational pursuits or retirement savings, starting or growing your business, financing home improvement or solar loans - you can trust we'll be there by your side to assist you in building economic security.

Community Service
We remain active in our support of community spirit through various sponsorships that include schools, recreation, scholarships, arts & theater, youth and family services, food banks, and our area police and fire departments.  As a local business, we take our role of service and involvement in the community very seriously through volunteer opportunities and fund raisers.  We also welcome your ideas on philanthropic avenues.
